To help schools who must quickly switch to online instruction in the middle of their spring semester, zyBooks has provided some free assistance -- see https://www.zybooks.com/covid-19-care-package/
Q: I'm already using a paid zyBook this spring semester -- can I get it free now and refund the students?
We are not issuing refunds, as the promotion was designed to help people out who suddenly find themselves in difficult situations as a result of changes related to the COVID-19 outbreak. We hope that those who had originally paid see the price as fair and service as valuable. This answer applies to the related question of getting a refund on the zyLabs portion of the price.
Q: I'm teaching a spring quarter course that started in March or April, and learned it must be taught online. Can I use the free offer?
No. This offer is specifically for spring semester course that now must SWITCH MID-SEMESTER to teaching online. Those students have already paid for some other products that aren't as amenable to online classes. So we're making this free because we first and foremost want students to succeed, and making them pay an extra cost mid-semester would be extremely hard for many students, especially low-income students, who we are deeply committed to.
For spring quarter courses, you can switch to our normal product pretty quickly; we can get you set up in a couple days or often much less. Yes, some schools have rules about changing books last minute, but these are not normal times, so we would hope they will bend the rules. As for bookstore reshelving costs, again, hopefully they'll make exceptions, but if not, please talk to us. As for students who already purchased their books, hopefully they can still return them, as most bookstores have a return policy for early returns, and costs hopefully would be limited. If you have questions or special circumstances, be sure to talk to your zyBooks sales representative or email email@example.com.
Q: I'm a student. My class isn't using a zyBook but can I get free access for myself?
No. Believe us when we say we wish we could provide such free access directly to students, but for various reasons we cannot. However, we encourage you to talk to your instructor about using zyBooks in their class.
